After more than a year of hard work, the South Windsor Haiti School Preschool (Ecole Agape-South Windsor Preschool) will open its doors in Lilavois, Haiti on Monday, Oct 24th, 2011. A delegation from the town of South Windsor will be there to participate in the long awaited event.
The delegation includes South Windsor town councilman and president of South Windsor Haiti School, Inc., Dr. Saud Anwar; Rabbi Jeffrey Glickman, from Temple Beth Hillel; Dr. Joel Davidson, president of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Dental Society Association; and Mrs. Judy Glickman. “I am very excited about the opening of our school,” Dr. Anwar said. “Without the generous support of the South Windsor community, this day would not have been possible.”
The group will be taking books, schools supplies, vitamins and nutritional supplements to the school. The items have been donated by members of the South Windsor community. A proclamation signed by Mayor John Pelkey will be placed on the school building and South Windsor’s town seal will be placed on the pre-school building that is now being added to the existing school.
The mission of the South Windsor Haiti School Task Force is to offer services to the Haitian people so that they can take responsibility for their own education, health and nutrition.
The South Windsor Haiti School Task Force is partnering with Ecole Agape, a tuition-free private school serving more than 200 children. Established more than 25 years ago, Ecole Agape educates girls in grades 1 through 6 and a small number of preschool age children from impoverished families and who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend school. The task force is funding the construction of a permanent location for the preschool, enabling the school to accept more needy preschool age children. The School will also house a small health care and dental clinic to serve the entire community.
The South Windsor Haiti School is a registered 501 C 3 charity located in South Windsor, CT, dedicated to building a better world through education. The South Windsor Haiti School Task Force is looking forward to the continued support of the South Windsor community as it continues to raise funds to operate and maintain the Ecole Agape-South Windsor Preschool.
